My wedding photography suits those who do not want the photographs to become the focus of the day yet want an informal but professionally produced collection of pictures. I aim to include as many people as possible in your pictures. None of us get to see our family and friends as often as we would like, so this is a good opportunity to make sure your nearest and dearest are included in the photographic record of the big day. The day can pass by in a blur and a collection of reportage pictures will provide a vivid reminder. My style is very spontaneous and unobtrusive. In addition to the family group pictures (which I try to make as intimate and relaxed as possible) you will have a high number of real (rather than staged) reportage pictures. I have been photographing weddings for 8 years predominantly in London and am used to many styles of wedding; from small gatherings of a dozen or so people to large events embracing two different cultures.

You will find enclosed details of terms, conditions, prices and of course a few pictures. If you would like to view my portfolio, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. A portfolio viewing is without obligation and at a location convenient for you - your home if you prefer.

If having viewed examples of my work you wish to go ahead, we meet again, a month or so before the wedding to produce a detailed brief which will contain details of your friends, families, special guests and so on. We also discuss which specific shots you require. These crucial details will be confirmed in writing prior to your wedding. If at all possible I like to meet you both as a degree of familiarity helps in terms of achieving relaxed portraits.

I very much hope this note covers all your queries. If not, don't hesitate to pick up the /email.

Whatever you decide ... many congratulations and have a wonderful day.

TERMS /CONDITIONS & GENERAL INFO

1. Style / Creative Approach:

I adopt a non-intrusive, relaxed, candid style in order to achieve natural, relaxed portraits and details of the day that make your wedding unique. This style is best described as reportage. 35mm equipment is used to enable a flexible, more mobile working method in preference to the medium format equipment that many social photographers use and you may be familiar with. This approach usually works best when I am permitted a free reign, although we will discuss the formal portraits that are required. I never shoot more than one event per day and always endeavour to portray not only ‘the event’ but the personalities of you, your family and friends. I usually shoot about 50:50 colour:black & white but can of course change this if you wish.

2. Completion/what you get !!

You will receive all prints which become your property. There is no obligation to purchase any additional prints. I do not supply a formal album although your prints will be supplied in a smart model, similar to the one I show you. The number of prints will vary depending on what is happening during the day, the size of the wedding and how long I am there. As a very rough estimate, if I am present for four hours at a ceremony followed by a reception with 80 or so guests you should receive 120-150 prints. The emphasis is on quality rather than quantity. There should be enough to give family & friends copies and to keep a good selection for yourself. I always use a professional lab so you can be assured of good quality prints. Should you decide to make a formal album, Investigate Selfridges (always have a good selection), Liberty, John Lewis, Paperchase, Borders, - plus independent retailers. You might want to consider having an album made to your specifications. I can supply details and advice if required. Similarly I can help with editing advice if required.

All prints will be numbered on the back for ease of reference should you decide to enlarge any or require reprints. You will receive an empty mount with your wedding photographs. Looking at so many pictures can be overwhelming so the mount will help separate the images.

3. How does it work?

The first stage is a no obligation portfolio viewing. All photographers are different - look at a few! In addition to portfolio I will be able to show you a whole wedding. If you wish to make a firm booking a £200 deposit is required. A month or so before the big day, we meet again and I take what is essentially a full PR briefing. Who is there, how do they relate to you? who are the special guests? Which ‘formal’ pictures do you require? What is the timetable? This is also an opportunity for us to get to know each other.

4. Materials/Equipment:

All photographic equipment (Canon EOS system) is of the highest standard and is methodically checked and maintained. Back up gear is carried at all times. Film and processing are of professional standard.

5. Copyright:

Copyright remains the property of the photographer at all times. Photographs may be used by the photographer for portfolio purposes.

7. Insurance:

I carry professional insurance (equipment & public liability) although you must note this would not cover for restaging your wedding in the event of a problem with the photographs. I take steps to minimise risks so hopefully this should not arise. In the event of any problem with the prints, an adjustment to the cost / no charge would of course be made. In addition I would offer to photograph (at no charge) a group of your family / friends at a time after the event. If you want absolute piece of mind, you should investigate event insurance which, in light of wedding costs may in any case be a sensible option. These policies I am told vary greatly so check what is included.

9. A note on winter weddings

Yes, the weather may be atrocious and the ambient light quite murky! It could also be beautifully sharp and crisp with lovely directional lighting. Flash lighting will in any case be more obvious in pictures taken in the winter - my portfolio has examples.

10. Experience;

I have been photographing weddings in London for a wide range of clients for the past seven years. I do not like to undertake weddings every weekend as my approach requires a fresh view each time and I do not want my pictures to become formulaic. I frequently work through two venues; Fredericks restaurant in Islington and Fawsley Hall Northamptonshire - I am very familiar with the staff and lighting conditions in both these venues. I do of course work all over the Midlands and South East including The Ritz, The Mandarin Oriental and the English Garden (and further afield!).

11. Cancellation

In the unlikely event you have to cancel your wedding, cancellation fees are;

More than 3 months before wedding deposit only
2 weeks to 3 months 50%
Within 2 weeks 100%

Kerry & Laura – based Toronto & London, wedding at Fredericks, Islington

Jayne they are unbelievable!! My God, when we opened our album we were speechless; we've never seen anything like it, so natural, alive, gorgeous ........... Could not find the words to describe it really!!

The only question we've been asking ourselves is "how did she do it??" No need to answer that, I am sure it is your top secret :-)

Anyway, we'd just like to thank you for making that very day more beautiful than it already is, we are so glad that you are part of it too!!

We love you Jayne! You are absolutely magic!!

Russell & Katy – Swiss Re – Tokoyo & UK, wedding at Fawsley Hall

There are two types of wedding photographers. One is the man in the suit you hire from the local photography shop, who takes standard wedding photos - "All the brides friends please, point your toes ladies". The other is Jayne West.

Our wedding photograph album is a vibrant portrayal of the best day of our lives. It combines natural reportage, showing friends and family as we really know them along with some semi-formal shots (exactly as we had requested which Jayne miraculously shot in less than 10 minutes).

"Behind the scenes" pictures of people getting ready shows the mounting excitment and really adds an extra dimension. The unobtrusive, natural and imaginative style of Jayne has left us with a record that is very moving, warm and really great fun.

Tammy & Mike – West London, wedding at the English Garden, Sloane Square

We were really impressed with the final photo's and put it down to all the pre-planning that you did, including seeing the venue, finding out about the guests and getting to know us as people. The pictures aptly portray the memories of the day for us as well as capturing our close family and friends at their best when they weren't necessarily posing for the camera – fantastic.

Chris, Norfolk – party at Fawsley Hall, Northants

We were absolutely thrilled with your all round service and professionalism at Pauline’s surprise 50th Birthday Party. Informal colour and black and white shots now fill an album which is an absolute delight to look at and totally captures the atmosphere of the event.

Inge & Pete, Surrey & Ashby St Ledgers, Northants. Wedding & Christening in Ashby

We are completely delighted with the pictures of our wedding (also our daughters christening). Somehow ones misses so much of what is happening on the day and the photographs are a wonderfully vivid reminder. Everyone seems so relaxed – something we felt that conventional photography would not have captured so well. Many people comented on your discretion – they hardly knew you were there!

Thank you for helping us achieve our perfect day. We have been impressed from the very first conversation with you – your accommodating nature, professionalism, the quality of your work and how you made us both feel at ease. WE have no doubts in recommending you to anyone who wants a more natural approach and hope you will be available next summer for the second christening.

Lesley & Michael, Greenwich, wedding at Fredericks, Islington

I didn’t realise how much of a high I would be on during our wedding day and subsequently how little I would be able to recall clearly. Your photos are just wonderful and a fantastic permanent reminder of a really great day. The informality you have worked into the pictures exactly reflects the occasion.
